Kottigepalya puts up with black spots

Residents complain that they have been living in the poor condition for many years.

BENGALURU: People living in Kottigepalya, an area situated on the outskirts of the city, seem to be in a different world as it was away from the hustle and bustle of city life. But, this was true of the locality almost two decades back.

Now, there are many civic issues that need immediate attention. Kottigepalya lacks good roads and the area is ridden with numerous black spots.

Residents complain that they have been living in the poor condition for many years. “We built our home in Kottigepalya in 2003. We totally shifted to this area from Cottonpet. While we really love the tree cover and the village feel of this area, the locality lacks basic civic amenities” said Ms Yamini, a home-maker.

She complained that the road in Srinivasapura falling under the Kottigepalya ward, which in turn falls under the Rajarajeshwari Nagar assembly constituency is in a state of sheer neglect.

“Neither do the elected representatives nor do the officials bother about the problems we face. And the problems too remain,” she added.

Some of the residents said the ongoing political crisis has cast its shadow on the developmental works in the area as the area falls under R R Nagar constituency.

“During night hours, we find it difficult to walk in the area due to the stray dog menace. We reach the area during night hours and we are under constant threat from the attack of stray dogs,” said Mr Shreyas, who works in a call centre.

He explained that the garbage issue in the area is also to be blamed for the stray dog menace.

“Garbage generated in the area is not properly handled. It is just strewn in the area or just thrown into the storm water drain. The increasing black spots in the area are also to be blamed as they feed these stray dogs” he explained.

We want the garbage issue to be resolved and the BBMP should help control the stray dog menace, he urged.

Some of the residents requested that the police patrolling in the area be improved. “Incidents of bikers snatching chains have been seen in the area. If police patrolling is improved, then such incidents can be curbed and there will be fear among the culprits” suggested another resident of Kottigepalya.
