Hyderabad: Bachupally man washed away
Hyderabad: A man from the city was washed away when he accidentally stepped in an open drain at Nizampet on Sunday evening. The police who searched in the drain fear that the man would have been swept away farther along its path, which opens in Nizampet lake.
According to the Bachupally police, the incident took place at around 6 pm at Nizampet. The victim was identified as Rakibul, 36, a labourer and resident of Nizampet.
Due to the heavy rains, the open drain was overflowing in the area. Rakibul, reportedly inebriated, left the house to go to a grocery store and was carrying an umbrella.
While walking on the road, Rakibul saw a car approaching and stepped aside to avoid being splashed by rainwater accumulated on the road.
As the water was overflowing, the drain was not visible and Rakibul stepped in it and was washed away, said the police.
“The police was intimated about the incident by the locals, who witnessed Rakibul falling into the drain. We checked through the drain line which has two manholes located at some distance but could not find him. It is suspected that he would have been swept further along,” said Bachupally inspector P Jagadeeshwar.
He said that the drainage enters the Nizampet Lake after about 800 meters. A rescue operation will be carried out on Monday.
“A case of missing person has been registered for now and after tracing the victim, the sections of the case would be altered if necessary,” said Inspector Jagadeeshwar.
