Hyderabad: Telangana is at the forefront of development and capital expenditure compared to other states but lagging behind in education, said minister for IT and Industries K. Taraka Rama Rao, quoting the report of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG).
The CAG report for the fiscal year 2018 was tabled in the Legislative Council on Sunday.
The report said that the payment obligations have also increased with the reliance on debt over the years. If the revival of the discoms (electricity distributing companies) is to be carried out, the state government must release the dues.
CAG has stated in its report that Rs 70,758 crore has been earmarked for irrigation projects, said the minister in the Legislative Council on Sunday.
Mr Rama Rao said that the revenue and revenue expenses of the state would be about three times that of the GSDP (Gross State Domestic Product). The capital expenditure in 2016-17 was reduced in 2017-18, said the minister. CAG has also said that the default deficit was high and the debt was not enough to meet the deficit.
The minister said that the Comptroller and Auditor General had suggested that the finance department should carry out its budgetary process to bridge the gap between budget estimates and realities.
