Consider plea of technical staffer for promotion, Madras high court tells SETC

Chennai: The Madras high court has directed the state express transport corporation to consider within two weeks, a representation from a technical staffer, which sought to provide time bound promotion to him. Justice Satrughana Pujahari gave the directive while disposing of a petition from P. Murugesan.

Petitioner’s counsel R.Y. George Williams submitted that the petitioner has sent a representation to the SETC to consider his case for promotion in accordance with law, in as much as, the SETC was going to accord promotion to the persons who were ineligible to the promotional post ignoring the case of the petitioner and hence, the petitioner has come forward to file this petition, to direct the SETC to consider and dispose of the petitioner’s representation, Williams added.

P. Kannan Kumar, standing counsel appearing for SETC, submitted that if such representation was pending, the same shall be considered within a stipulated period, but this court should not put any fetter on the merits of the representation that was required to be addressed in accordance with law.

The judge said, considering the facts and circumstances made, this court dispose of this petition with a direction to the respondents (authorities) to consider the representation of the petitioner, if the same was pending, as expeditiously as possible preferably within a period of two weeks, in accordance with law.

However, it was made clear that this court has not expressed any opinion on the merits of such representation in any manner, the judge added.
