Coimbatore: Denied money for mobile recharge, teen hangs self

The deceased boy had demanded money for recharging his mobile phone, which his mother refused.

COIMBATORE: A class-ten boy committed suicide here after his mother allegedly refused to give him money for recharging his mobile phone. According to police, Siva Kumar is a resident of Thiruvalluvar Nagar in Singanallur. His son Danush (15), was studying in a government high school in the same area.

Recently, Danush had demanded money for recharging his mobile phone, which his mother refused. Irked over this, Danush hanged himself from the ceiling fan in his room. His parents thought that Danush was studying inside his room, and came to know about the incident only when his mother entered the room to call him for dinner.

On hearing the screams of his parents, neighbours came rushing in and soon informed the Singanallur police. Besides registering a complaint, police personnel made investigations on the spot, and also sent the body to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for post-mortem. Investigations are on.

In another such incident, a 21-year-old youth committed suicide near Thoppampatty in the city's suburbs. Police said, Ramachandran, a resident of Nehru Nagar was working as supervisor in a small-scale industry in the same area.

He had to look for another job, as the company he was working for closed down. Being unemployed even after a prolonged hunt for a new job, Ramachandran went into a state of depression. On Friday, when his family members had gone out, poor Ramachandran hanged himself. Thudiyaloor police are investigating.
