GraVITas' 17: VIT's knowledge carnival begins

Viswanathan stressed that constant pursuit of technological innovation.

Vellore: Calling upon the students to focus on the 'marvels of technology', VIT University chancellor Dr. Viswanathan stressed that constant pursuit of technological innovation alone would help realise the 'Make in India' dream of the Prime Minister and catapult the nation among the global super powers.

Addressing an impressive gathering of the cream of student community from multiple institutions across the country and senior teachers, Dr Viswanathan cited examples of marvels of technology - Palm Island Dubai built from rocks and sand instead of concrete and Three Gorges Dam in China, made with an investment of US dollar 25 billion and gave 22,000MW of electricity. India too must evolve such innovations as floods and drought repeatedly mauled its people, he said, adding that the Large Hadron Collider gave answers to some of the fundamental open questions in Physics and was the best example of Marvels of technology.

Naresh Shah, President- India (R&D) Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Bengaluru, spoke about technology intervention in everyday life-be it the smart watch or phone or the navigation provided by Google maps-and said students should stay abreast as technology galloped. "The future of technology is unpredict-a-ble. Technology once thought impossible is now a reality. Self-driven cars are best examples for unpredictable technology", he said.
