Alliance' sweeps HCU elections

ASJ's Sreerag P., a PhD student in regional studies, won the president post defeating ABVP candidate Karan Palsaniya.

Hyderabad: Alliance for Social Justice (ASJ), a coalition between two major student parties SFI and ASA - swept students union elections at University of Hyderabad and won all positions.

ASJ’s Sreerag P., a PhD student in regional studies, won the president post defeating ABVP candidate Karan Palsaniya. Congress students wing NSUI’s Anju Rao stood third. Sreerag was active in protests at the university after Rohith Vemula’s suicide.

The alliance saw the coming together of Dalit-Adivasi-Muslim-Left parties on campus.

The elections witnessed a neck-to-neck competition between ASJ and ABVP.

The general secretary post was won by Arif Ahammed (ASJ) and the joint secretary post was won by Muhammed Ashique. The Cultural secretary post was won by Gundeti Abhishek. Lolam Shravan Kumar won the sports secretary post. All the four winning candidates are from the ASJ. The result of the election for vice-president post will be declared on Monday. The Gender Sensitisation Committee against Sexual Harassment (GS-Cash) panel too was swept by ASJ.
