Whitefield epitomises IT, innovation, art & culture: Dominic McAllister

The UK and India are an unbeatable combination for enormously successful partnerships, says British Deputy High Commissioner.

Bengaluru: British Deputy High Commissioner Dominic McAllister hailed Whitefield as a unique part of Bengaluru which has evolved into a vibrant community and Information and Communications Technology (ICT) hub.

Inaugurating the ‘Britain Meets Business @ Whitefield’ here on Thursday, he said, “UK firms such as ARM, Tesco, Test & Verification Systems UK (TVS UK) and Essential Energy have chosen to set up offices here and many British expats have made Whitefield their home. From its sleepy start as an outpost of the Anglo-Indian community, it’s now at the heart of everything Bengaluru is known for - IT, innovation, arts and culture.”

Highlighting the opportunities for firms to tie-up with the UK at the upcoming India-UK Tech Summit in New Delhi in November, McAllister, said, “I’d like to reiterate Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s words that ‘the UK is known for its strength in technology and innovation. India offers vast opportunities through its markets, skilled human resources and competitive economic environment. The UK and India are an unbeatable combination for enormously successful partnerships.”

He said British trade delegations focusing on healthcare, life science, advanced engineering and science & innovation will travel to Bengaluru in November to strengthen ties with businesses and research centres in the city. McAllister interacted with ‘Whitefield Rising’ and civic activist R.K. Misra on urban issues the citizens’ action group is tackling.
