Karnataka: Year-long programmes to mark golden jubilee of State's renaming
Dharwad: The Karnataka Government is planning to conduct an year-long programmes, starting from November 1, in connection with 50th anniversary of the state's renaming as Karnataka. Minister for Kannada and Culture Shivaraj Tangadagi chaired a preparatory meeting hosted by the Department of Kannada and Culture and the Kannada Development Authority to discuss 'Karnataka Sambhrama-50,' the year-long programmes. The meeting held at the Patil Puttappa Sabha Bhavan in Dharwad was to garner insights, cooperation, and guidance from eminent writers, artists, and intellectuals from Belagavi.
It was in 1973 that Mysuru has been renamed as Karnataka.
To celebrate the golden jubilee of the State's renaming, series of events will be conducted across the state which will be attended by seasoned writers, artists, thinkers, and literary figures.
During the preparatory meeting, the minister said that a meeting with writers from Kalaburagi Revenue Division districts will be held on September 28. Similarly, on September 4, a gathering of writers from Mysuru Revenue Division districts will convened in Mysuru.
"Inputs received during these preliminary meetings will be compiled, with the most exceptional ideas selected by the committee. The final blueprint for the programme will be drafted in consultation with writers and experts, which will be released on September 10 or 11," he said.
"Funds for the golden jubilee celebrations have been earmarked in the State budget.The agenda of the programme also includes discourse on Karnataka and the Kannada language, and also conducting literary and folk programmes at the village level," he said.
Some of the proposed initiaitves include, discussion on Kannada state and language, literary and folk programmes, publication of 50 special Kannada books and felicitation of 50 Kannada stalwarts.
The meeting drew the participation of senior writers, artists, and literary organizers from districts within the Belagavi revenue division—Belagavi, Dharwad, Bagalkot, Vijayapura, Haveri, Gadag, and Koppal.
District presidents of Kannada Sahitya Parishat and representatives of Kannada organizations attended the meeting.
