BENGALURU: The State Government has informed the High Court that election to the post of chairman of the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) will be held before August 31.

The submission was made in connection with former minister H.D. Revanna challenging an earlier order of the state government postponing the election.
The state had put off the election to chairman’s post, which was earlier scheduled to be held on July 29. While questioning the state's order, Mr Revanna had also sought directions to initiate the process of holding elections to the post from the stage where it was stopped.

The petitioner, Revanna stated that according to the calendar of events, the election to the post of chairman was to be held on July 29, but an order has been issued to postpone it, with a sole reason to avoid Revanna from becoming the chairman, the petition alleged.

It further added that no proper reasons were cited for postponing the election and once the calendar of events are announced, it cannot be put off.

The High Court has directed the state government to constitute Town Vending Committees in six weeks, to facilitate the implementation of the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014.
