School demolishes temple: Tension in Pattegarapalya

A BBMP official said the land, where the temple stood, belonged to the school and the local authority will look into it.

Bengaluru: Tension prevailed in Pattegarapalya on Wednesday morning after the residents found that a school administration had allegedly demolished a temple.

The area residents on Wednesday filed a complaint against St. Paul's School administration for demolishing a four decade old temple overnight and also staged a protest in front of school.

The incident happened in Vijayangar police station limits. Police said the situation was tense but after their intervention it was brought under control.

In its complaint the temple trust stated that the school principal took the building around six months ago, which is located adjacent to the temple. On Tuesday night they demolished the temple claiming that it was causing problem to them.

However, the school administration stated that the land where the temple was located belonged to the school and therefore they have not violated any norm.

But the temple management claimed the school authorities have hurt religious sentiments by demolishing the temple.

A BBMP official said the land, where the temple stood, belonged to the school and the local authority will look into it.

The police have also written to the BBMP regarding the same and sought clarification.
