Hyderabad: Revenue wing to pay for demolition

While permitting the revenue staff to reconstruct the wall, the judge directed them not to touch any other part of the building.

Hyderabad: An act of demolition by the lower rung officials of Sangareddy revenue department has boomeranged on them resulting in the department being forced to pay for the reconstruction of wall belonging to a private firm.

Ameenpur mandal revenue inspector along with his staff had demolished a portion of a compound wall belonging to DCS Sporting Pvt Ltd situated in 1.35 acres of Survey No. 168/P of Ameenpur village.

Aggrieved with the action of the officials, the firm approached the Hyderabad High Court.

While dealing with the petition, Justice S.V. Bhatt sought the response of the tahsildar of the mandal who filed an affidavit stating that he had instructed his staff to take steps to protect government lands in the mandal. The revenue inspector informed the court that with an intention to protect government land he had demolished a portion of the compound wall and since it was found that had not acted in accordance with the law, he would take the responsibility and restore the compound wall with his own expenses.

While permitting the revenue staff to reconstruct the wall, the judge directed them not to touch any other part of the building.

Making it clear that the revenue authorities are at liberty to take possession of the government land after determining the boundaries, the judge directed the revenue authorities to submit the report by September 12.
