Vizianagaram: Swapped baby girls reunited with mothers
Visakhapatnam: It took a lot of tears, a mother’s perseverance, and evan a DNA test. But in the end, there were smiles on the faces of the mothers.
Two newborn baby girls, who got swapped at birth in a private hospital in Vizianagaram Town on Sunday due to negligence of the staff, were reunited with their actual parents on Tuesday evening.
The happy ending came about with counselling by officials of the medical and health department and CCTV footage confirming the correct identity of the mothers and babies.
B. Aparna Lakshmi from Poolbagh Colony in Vizianagaram Town and B. Madhuri from Chelluru in Vizianagaram district were both in the labour ward of PVR Hospital in Vizianagaram Town.
Madhuri gave birth to a baby girl at around 12.45 pm on August 20 and Aparna also gave birth to a girl child at around 1.13 pm on August 20 after undergoing a caesarean section.
Aparna alleged that her baby girl was swapped after she heard from her relatives that the baby was born at around 12.47 pm. She asked how this was possible when the caesarean took place after 1 pm.
Aparna was proved right when CCTV cameras at the hospital showed that the babies had indeed been swapped by a mistake.
