Tamil Nadu govt has lost its majority, says Opposition

TNCC leader S. Thirunavukkarasar said the strength of the government had come down and the Chief Minister should be asked to prove his majority.

Chennai: Asserting that Edappadi K. Palaniswami government had been reduced to a minority after the withdrawal of support to him by 19 AIADMK MLAs, Opposition leaders on Tuesday demanded that Governor Ch. Vidyasagar Rao should direct the Chief Minister to prove his majority in the Assembly.

TNCC leader S. Thirunavukkarasar said the strength of the government had come down and the Chief Minister should be asked to prove his majority. The merger itself was a drama enacted by the BJP government at the centre, he said.

Ecohing his views, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi leader Thol. Thirumavalavan said since the legislators in given in writing to the Governor that they had withdrawn support to Palaniswami, it was clear that the state government had lost its majority.

Sharing similar opinion, PMK youth wing leader Anbumani Ramadoss said besides the MLAs supporting AIADMK deputy general secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran, some of the legislators who were supporting former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam too were in a dissenting mood. Failure to order a floor test or giving more time would encourage horse-trading he said.

DK president K. Veeramani said the government did not have the support of the people or sufficient number of MLAs. The Governor should discharge his democratic duty or the ruling party itself should come forward to prove its majority, he said.
