Southern states to share power

All southern states will cooperate with each other in power generation, distribution and transmission.

Hyderabad: Southern states electricity institutions have reached an agreement on sharing power from a power surplus state. To this effect, a unanimous decision was taken in the two day meeting of Southern Region Power Committee (SRPC) under the chairmanship of D. Prabhakar Rao, CMD of TS Transco, held at Thiruvananthapuram on Monday and Tuesday.

According to the agreement, states that have surplus power can sell it directly to other states which are in need, without involvement of power exchange. All southern states will cooperate with each other in power generation, distribution and transmission.

Power needy states can inform power surplus states just one hour before and avail power. Also, to avail the facility, one need not maintain an agreement each time.

All the power sales in southern states will be done through the Southern Region Load Dispatch Centre (SRLGC).

Any state having power surplus or shortage should inform SRLDC and apply to sell or purchase. This will enable selling and purchasing of power based on the increase and decrease in demand.
