Hyderabad: Rescued Thais were physios

Trade licence acquired using physio tag.

Hyderabad: The Thai women who were rescued from spas in the city which were organising the sex trade under the guise of massage, have a physiotherapy background.

The spas were running with a trade licence acquired using the physiotherapy certificate of one of the victims, police said. More details about the racket and their links will come out after taking the suspects into custody, senior police officials said.

Investigating officials also found that the spa organisers instead of flushing the condoms and other sanitary materials via the drain packed the things at the end of the day and handed it over to a house keeping staffer to dump in a garbage dump a km away. Police also found that the spas were charging taxes on the services provided but were not remitting it to the government.

Siddartha Dasari entered the spa business in 2013 as a franchisee of Mumbai-based Aura Thai Spa. They supplied women through the Mumbai spa. As he got good profits in the business he started his own chain in 2016 and established branches in the city and in Bengaluru.

Police said the organisers were keen on employing only women with a physiotherapy background as masseurs as they will be able to handle customers properly for massage as well as sexual favours.

“One of the women’s certificate was used for display in the spas and massage parlours. Their pay was also regular like that of the women who were working in the spas,” an official said.

Cyberabad police conducted simultaneous raids on six spas and arrested kingpin Siddartha and his aides and rescued 65 women including 34 Thai nationals, 21 from north eastern states, one from Punjab and nine from Hyderabad. They were taken to rescue homes.
