University of Hyderabad scholar on medication dies
Hyderabad: A 29-year-old research scholar at the University of Hyderabad, who was found unconscious in a bathroom in the hostel died in a hospital at Serilingampally on Monday.
Police said that the scholar, Dipika Maha-patra, 29, from West Bengal was said to be under medication for a neurological problem for some time. Police has registered a case of suspicious death for investigation.
Dipika, a native of Kharagpur in West Bengal, was pursuing PhD in Hindi at the University of Hyderabad and residing at the hostel At around 8 am on Monday, she was found lying unconscious in the bathroom by other hostellers. The latter informed the university authorities who shifted her to Citizen Hospital at Serilingampally where doctors confirmed her brought dead at around 8.30 am.
Gachibowli police were alerted about the incident.
Gachibowli inspector R. Srinivas said that Dipika is said to have been suffering from a health disorder and was under medication.
“As per medical records available with the University Health Centre, it was found that Dipika was suffering from a neurological problem and also epilepsy. She has been under medical treatment. No external injuries were found on her body,” said the inspector.
He said that a case of suspicious death under Section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code was registered and her body shifted to the Osmania General Hos-pital for post-mortem.
Her family had been informed and the body would be handed over to them when they reach the city, an official told Deccan Chronicle.
