SFI to counter rivals ideologically

The KSU claimed to have started its unit on University College campus on Monday.

THIRUVANANTHPURAM: With the ruling CPM advising caution, the SFI has decided to avoid physical confrontation with rival students' organisations especially those which intend to open their units in left-controlled campuses.

The KSU claimed to have started its unit on University College campus on Monday.

"If what they claim is true then in a way the KSU is contradicting its own charge that SFI was physically preventing rivals from functioning on the campus. The KSU is trying to shift the blame on SFI for its failure to attract students towards its ideology and programmes," said SFI state secretary Sachin Dev.

The SFI state committee will not encourage the tendency to physically prevent rivals or use of force against them on the campuses.

"This style of functioning cannot take an organisation like SFI forward . Our idea is to allow free access to all," said Sachin Dev.

However, the SFI will guard against the activities of fundamentalist and hardline organisations which are making attempts to divide the students on religious and caste lines. The SFI leadership has decided to launch a statewide campaign to expose the divisive agenda of such organisations. Ideological debates, discussions and interaction will be organised on the campuses across the state to expose the extremist organisations.

The emphasis will be on creating awareness among the students about the dangers posed by communal and hardline outfits and the need to strengthen left, democratic and secular ideas.

While condemning the university college episode, the SFI state leadership said prompt action had been taken against the accused.

However, there is still concerted campaign to weaken the SFI using the incident . "The intention of such forces is to weaken SFI to facilitate entry of extremist outfits in colleges," said SFI leader.

The SFI is also planning to launch a campaign to expose the ABVP alleged goondaism in MG College and VTMNSS college Dhanuvachapuram.
