Released Cauvery water reaches Tamil Nadu

Discharge from the KRS dam was done following the orders of the CMA to release water to our state.

KRISHNAGIRI: The Cauvery waters released from KRS dam in Mysuru in Karnataka has entered Tamil Nadu via Biligundulu, bordering Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts here on Monday.

The inflows into Biligundulu, from where the Central Water Commission (CWC)' monitors the water received in the Cauvery river on the Tamil Nadu side was recorded as over 4,200 cusecs.

The local PWD sources have confirmed that the inflow received here was due to the opening of the dam in the upper riparian state following the orders of the Cauvery Management Authority (CMA).

"Discharge from the KRS dam was done following the orders of the CMA to release water to our state. The outflow of KRS was maintained at the level below 1,000 cusecs (a few days ago) and later increased to 4,085 cusecs on Saturday and now maintained at 5,096 cusec on Monday" a local PWD official told reporters on condition of anonymity.

In Dharmapuri, the district administration has made elaborate arrangements for people living in the villages along the course of Cauvery. They may be relocated to safer places if necessary.

The picnickers have been asked to abide by the rules for their safety. They have been asked not to enter the river at places identified as danger zone.
