Kochi: Patient dies of alleged medical negligence

Police registered a case of unnatural death.

KOCHI: A complaint of medical negligence against a private hospital in Aluva was lodged at the Aluva East Police Station by the father of a 35-year-old woman, who died following a surgical procedure at the hospital on Monday morning.

The deceased was identified as Sandhya (35), wife of Anoop, a resident of Kaniyankunnu in East Kadungalloor. Mr Anoop, who works abroad, had come here three weeks ago.

As per the complaint, Sandhya was admitted on Sunday evening, and surgery of tubectomy was fixed for Monday morning around 8 am. The patient was shifted to another hospital around 8.45 am after the surgery, following some complications. However, she was declared brought dead, the complaint said.

Police registered a case of unnatural death. Postmortem will take place at the Ernakulam Medical College Hospital on Tuesday. "A team of doctors has been arranged for the postmortem. As of now, a case of unnatural death has been registered. Only the postmortem would reveal more on this. An investigation is underway," a police officer said.

The body is currently kept at the mortuary of the private hospital. Sandhya also leaves two children aged 8 and 10..
