They also added that the Indian troops retailed “befittingly”, using the same calibre weapons.

SRINAGAR: An Army jawan was killed on Monday when the Pakistani troops targeted Indian forward posts and civilian areas with mortar shells and small arms along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district.

The Army officials in winter capital of Jammu said that the soldier whose identity was not disclosed was critically injured in the Pakistani firing in Keri Battal area of Sunderbani sector of Rajouri and was immediately rushed to a nearby military hospital.

“He, however, succumbed to his injuries”, said defence spokesman Lt. Col. Devender Anand. He added that this was the second violation of the November 2003 ceasefire by Pakistan along the LoC in Jammu region in the last three days.

Giving the details of the latest alleged ceasefire violation, the Army said that the Pakistani troops had begun targeting the Indian forward positions and some villages along the de facto border at around 6:30 am on Monday and continued intermittently for several hours, causing panic among the border residents who have been advised to take necessary precautionary measures for their safety.

They also added that the Indian troops retailed “befittingly”, using the same calibre weapons.
