Will win 72 seats in Telangana says Congress

Uttam Kumar Reddy said farmers were cheated by the TRS which had promised Rs 1 lakh crop loan waiver.

Hyderabad: The Congress will win 72 out of the 119 Assembly seats in state and form government while the TRS will get just 38, according to a survey report submitted by the TPCC to the Congress high command on Sunday.

TPCC chief N. Uttam Kumar Reddy along with senior leaders K. Jana Reddy, Mohd Shabbir Ali, V. Hanumantha Rao among others attended the Congress Working Committee meeting which was presided over by AICC president Rahul Gandhi. They briefed him on the party’s prospects in 2019.

The TPCC leaders said the TRS government had failed in delivering on its major poll promises made in 2014, due to which the people were angry and were ready to teach the party a fitting lesson in the elections.

They said the people, especially students, farmers and women felt cheated by the TRS government and looking at Congress for help.

Congress sources said Mr Uttam Kumar Reddy explained how students who played a crucial role in the statehood struggle were left in the lurch as the TRS government could not give them even 20,000 jobs while it had promised to one lakh.

He said farmers were cheated by the TRS which had promised Rs 1 lakh crop loan waiver. The government released the waiver in four instalments, because of which banks imposed interest on the farmers. He said women self-help groups were angry as they were denied pavala vaddi.

Mr Reddy said the bus yatras being taken up by TPCC in two phases had received overwhelming response in all districts with good support from students, farmers and women. Mr Reddy said the party had conducted several independent surveys in all constituencies to assess the pulse of voters, which clearly stated that the Congress had the edge in 72 constituencies and would form government comfortably in 2019.
