Hyderabad: Even as community elders and religious scholars are stressing the need for simple marriages, a set of videos showing dancers performing at a wedding reception have gone viral on social media.

The videos show the function hall festooned with colourful lights and luxury seating provided for the invitees while drone cameras capture the images in what looks to be a palatial premises.

Interestingly, a few videos feature semi-clad dancers performing to Bollywood numbers, Egyptian and Russian music. The videos show a DJ and a 30-member orchestra rendering songs throughout the night with intermittent display of fireworks.

The videos show a lavish spread where teenager girls in western outfits were serving food to male guests.

The videos were reportedly shot during receptions hosted by affluent families hailing from Chandrayangutta which was held at a palatial function hall in Bandlaguda. The event was said to have been held last week with about 4,000 people attending.

The videos drew angry reactions from the public who questioned the local law enforcement agencies for ignoring the late night celebrations. “If any poor man arranges a musical band, the police snatches the instruments and asks them to appear before the court. Why do they have a different set of rules for affluent persons,” asked one Shareef Ahmed on Facebook. The show drew support from some people including one Anees Khan, who said that those who have the money will spend it the way they want.

Hall owners warned over parties
Chandrayangutta police organised a meeting with the management of the function hall owners and asked not to allow any form of music and dance programmes at the premises.

The police took the initiative after a series of videos of dancers performing at a function to live orchestra and DJ system went viral on Sunday. Inspector Chandrayangutta, S Naveen said that the police control room had received a call and police patrol party rushed to the spot and registered a case of sound pollution. The police could not clarify how it failed to stop a function that went on till 5 am as being reported on social media.
