Hyderabad mayor bans plastic bouquets
Hyderabad: After imposing ban on single use plastic and water bottles in all Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation offices, the corporation has decided not to accept plastic wrapped bouquets. City mayor Bonthu Rammohan has directed officials to great with saplings rather than bouquets. The civic body would plant as many as 5 lakh saplings during current year under Haritha Haram and distribute 35 lakh for free of cost to the citizens.
Mr Rammohan said that people from different walks of life have been coming forward to participate in the proposed Haritha Haram. The awareness campaign of the GHMC and government organisations promoting the need for greenery has motivated citizens to enthusiastically participate in the programme. He said that the civic body would strive to maintain 33 per cent greenery in the city.
Mr Rammohan said that the GHMC would first inspire government officials and citizens on bouquet ban. He said that the corporation will soon bring a rule to ban plastic wrapped bouquets in city.
He said that the corporation conduct campaign during Haritha Haram and would seek the help of self-help groups. The corporation will include bouquet ban in all future Swachh Hyderabad Internship Programmes (SHIP).
