GHMC to give saplings at all temples
Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has decided to distribute saplings at all temples during the ongoing Bonalu festive season. The corporation would distribute them as part of Haritha Haram programme.
GHMC commissioner instructed the bio-diversity officials to increase number of medicinal herbs, saplings which prevents mosquitoes. He also instructed officials to plant saplings at empty places available in all temples.
The civic body commissioner had asked citizens to take part in the Haram programme. The corporation has decided to distribute 35 lakh saplings. A total of 95,000 saplings will be planted in LB Nagar zone, 65,000 in Charminar, 79,600 in Khairatabad, 85,250 in Serilingampally, 1,01,050 in Kukatpally and 74,100 in Secunderabad zone. The saplings meant to be given away to citizens too have been distributed among the zones.
Citizens can contact the local nurseries spread across these six zones to avail these plants. While the tall plants are meant for avenue plantation, the smaller one are mostly the ornamental ones, said Aruna Jyothi, a nursery incharge, from LB Nagar. With eight nurseries, Charminar has the highest nursery stock of 11.76 lakh saplings followed by Khairatabad and LB Nagar.
