Mysuru: Move to denotify dead lakes shocking, says AH Vishwanath

A committee for a separate flag for the State has been formed, Mr Vishwanath said.

Mysuru: Former MP and JD(S) leader A.H. Vishwanath said on Saturday that the state government’s decision to denotify dead lakes was shocking. To divert the attention of the people opposing it and to cover up its failures, the government is creating new controversies, he told reporters here.

Mr Vishwanath said, “When people in many parts of the State have no proper drinking water, the government wants to denotify dead lakes for the benefit of realtors. No government has developed any new lake. This decision is anti-people and against law. This is against the Supreme Court order of 1994. It has to be dropped in the interests of the people. Why are the environmental activists silent on the matter?”

He said the government is trying to divert the attention of the people opposing it on various issues. It is trying to say that Lingayats and Veerashaivas are different. A committee for a separate flag for the State has been formed. It is creating new controversies to cover up its failures,” Mr Vishwanath alleged.
