Kodungaiyur LPG blast: death toll increases to 7

On Friday, two persons, including the owner of the bakery, J. Anandhan succumbed to the injuries at the hospital.

Chennai: The death toll in the Kodungaiyur bakery blast case increased to seven with two more succumbing to their injuries at the Kilpauk Medical College Hospital (KMCH) on Saturday. The latest of the deceased were identified as L. Kannan (36) and N. Baskar (38). They had suffered 49 per cent and 65 per cent burns respectively, according to hospital authorities.

On Friday, two persons, including the owner of the bakery, J. Anandhan succumbed to the injuries at the hospital. According to KMCH officials, of the 14 persons still under treatment there, 11 patients have over 40 per cent burn injuries and are in critical condition while three others have less than 40 per cent burn injuries. “Three patients were discharged after treatment, while the eleven-year-old boy, B. Monish is stable," a doctor told DC. It may be recalled that last Saturday (July 15), a fire broke out at a bakery in Kodungaiyur, which led to a gas cylinder explosion.
