Kerala: Cops seek information of Deepa Nisanth's tormentors
Thrissur: Police on Saturday sought details from Facebook on members of right-wing ‘Outspoken’ and ‘Kavippada’ groups who posted threats against Deepa Nisanth, an assistant professor at Sree Kerala Varma College here, after she posted a note justifying a replica of nude MF Husain paintings of goddess Saraswathi displayed by the SFI on the campus.
The West Police had registered cases invoking IT Act Section 67 for posting and sharing a morphed picture of the assistant professor and IPC 354, 509 and 506 for using vulgar language, outraging the modesty of women and for criminal intimidation. West CI V. K. Raju said city police commissioner T. Narayanan had sent a request to FB seeking details of the accounts, including those who have shared them. “We are planning arrests after we get the details, which will be considered substantial evidence,” Mr Raju told DC. He also said that police patrolling near the house of the Ms Nisanth was intensified after she refused police protection.
Meanwhile, VHP filed a complaint with the West Police against hurting religious sentiments with the nude paintings. It was removed from the campus on the same day it was put up, and the police registered no case on the VHP complaint.
