Bengaluru: RWAs to fight proposed common zone regulation
Bengaluru: Representatives of over 35 Resident Welfare Associations took part in a meeting convened at Indiranagar by citizens groups to discuss on the draft Common Zoning Regulations.
The RWAs have been fighting against commercialisation of residential areas have now united to fight the draft with the motto -'Fight for What is Right'.
The Saturday’s meeting saw over 200 representatives of RWAs from R.R. Nagar, Indiranagar, Kormangala, HSR Layout, Jayanagar, V .V. Puram, Malleswaram, Domlur, J.P. Nagar and other areas take part. They were determined to put pressure on the government to take back the draft.
Addressing the gathering, civic evangelist Ravichandar said the regulations makes a mockery of the role of the municipal corporations in framing rules.
Vijayan Menon, a member of Citizens Action Forum, who has been fighting against the presence of commercial establishments in residential areas for a decade, told RWA representatives that this new draft was different from the existing law and explained to them about the ill effects of the proposed notification.
"Allowing commercial establishments on 30 feet wide roads isn't a good idea and this will transform peaceful residential areas into bustling marketplaces and affect the private life of citizens," Vijayan said.
The RWA representatives took a firm decision to fight the draft and have decided to take it up with their public representatives.
