No complete lockdown in Bengaluru as of now: BBMP Commissioner
While suggestions have been pouring in from people from different sectors including the former chief minister Mr H D Kumaraswamy to impose complete lockdown on Bengaluru city, BBMP has clarified that it has no such plans as of now. It should be noted that on Monday, BBMP imposed lockdown in 5 areas in the city for 14 days period. This decision was criticized as the common men felt it will not serve any great purpose in curtailing the virus spread and the debate of imposing a complete lockdown was occupied all over.
Health officials are patting their back over their preparedness to handle the worst by directing private hospitals to reserve 50 percent of beds to treat Corona patients. But the pace at which the fresh cases are getting added is a cause of worry.
Karnataka's Covid 19 war room has predicted that going by the rate at which the fresh cases are getting reported, Corona positive cases will swell up to 25,000 cases by August.
City recorded hattrick century with 107 fresh Corona positive cases, while the state reported 322 cases taking the total tally to 9,721.
The ILI and SARI cases turning positive for Corona is a major cause of worry for in Karnataka and on Monday there were more than 60 cases from Bengaluru alone.
The spike in the number of cases with no travel history or contact with positive cases is giving all hints of community spread and there were 50 cases throughout the state whose source of infection was yet to be traced.
Bengaluru continues to record more deaths. Of the 8 deaths, 6 are from Bengaluru. Bengaluru has till date reported 73 deaths. Also the people in ICU has almost doubled. There were 38 patients on ICU on Monday which jumped to 71 by Tuesday evening. There were 120 people on ICU all over the state.
When DC spoke to BBMP Commissioner Mr Anil Kumar and questioned whether total lockdown will be imposed in Bengaluru, he answered, "There is no such plan to lockdown the whole city as of now".
However he didn't give clarity whether such decision might be taken in the coming days.
On a positive note, 274 patients who recovered from Corona were discharged.
