Siddaramaiah aides pitch for regional party
Bengaluru: Staunch supporters of former chief minister Siddaramaiah are calling on their leader to seriously think of launching a regional outfit to become the chief minister again.
At a meeting held the day that Mr Siddaramaiah returned from Delhi, former minister, Dr H.C. Mahadevappa, Bhairati Basavaraj and Bhairati Suresh, M.T.B. Nagaraj were held a meeting at Mr Siddaramaiah’s residence. Party sources said that it was Dr Mahadevappa who came up with the idea first. He observed that Congress party has lost its base and the traditional voters had moved away as was proved in the LS elections. while the JD (S) was getting stronger at the expense of the Congress party.
Mr Siddaramaiah, Dr Mahadevappa said, had very high acceptability across a cross-section of the society could become CM again only if he moves out of the Congress party and forms his own outfit. The others too concurred with the idea and Mr Nagaraj even suggested that he would make arrangements to get resources required for to launch a party.
Mr Siddaramaiah did not dismiss the idea completely but remained unconvinced about the success of such a formation. He reportedly observed that none of the experiments of regional parties remained successful in the state. “Even Devaraj Urs could not pull it off. It is difficult to build a regional party,” he observed. His supporters however, said that it was an idea whose time had come and that they should take it forward, sources revealed.
