Rain plays spoilsport, H D Kumaraswamy cancels Heroor grama vaastavya

On the petitions received at Chandriki village, the CM said the Deputy Commissioner and the elected representatives would take action.

KALABURAGI: The “grama vaastavya” programme of Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, which was scheduled to be held at Heroor (B) village in Afzalpur taluk on Saturday, was cancelled owing to heavy rain Friday night.

Mr Kumaraswamy, who held the programme at Chandriki village in Gurmitkal taluk on Friday, was scheduled to camp at Heroor (B) village on Saturday. The district administration had made elaborate arrangements for the programme.

Speaking to the media at Chandriki village on Saturday morning before leaving for Bengaluru via Hyderabad, Mr Kumaraswamy said though he was disappointed with the cancellation of the programme, he was happy that the region, which was reeling under drought, had received good rainfall. “I apologise to the people of Heroor (B) village as he could not be with them on Saturday. Already, the district administration has initiated measures to attend to their problems. In July when the Assembly session will be held, I will take time to stay in a village in Kalaburagi district,” Mr Kumaraswamy said.

On the petitions received at Chandriki village, the CM said the Deputy Commissioner and the elected representatives would take action. Most of the petitions were for old age and widow pensions, school buildings, and the youth seeking employment. The CM promised he would initiate steps to help the youth get jobs in private companies. He also promised to rebuild the dilapidated school buildings in the H-K region this year and provide drinking water to the needy villages.

Meanwhile, district in-charge Minister Priyank Kharge said the district administration had prepared a list of 28 projects involving a cost of Rs 500 crore for the district to be presented to the Chief Minister during his village stay today. But the programme had to be cancelled because of the heavy rain on Friday night. “We received more than 2,000 petitions and expected 15,000 people to take part in the programme. We did not want to take any risk. So in the interest of public safety, we cancelled the programme,” he said.
