Hassan: Leopard locked up in abandoned house rescued

The abandoned house belonging to Shivanna is used as a godown to dump coconuts, its husk and shell.

Hassan: A female leopard aged around three years had to spend some hours locked up in an abandoned house at K. Byadarahalli Kaval of Shantigrama Hobli of Hassan Taluk on Saturday after the house owner saw a leopard entering the house in the morning and locked it up before informing forest officials who rescued the big cat.

The abandoned house belonging to Shivanna is used as a godown to dump coconuts, its husk and shell. He saw a leopard entering the house and locked the doors and windows of the house and informed the forest officials. At around 10.30 am, forest officials received the information and swung into action to rescue the locked up leopard.

At around 2.30 pm, forest officials were able to sight the leopard inside the house and darted it. The darting of the leopard was through removing some roof tiles of the abandoned house. The sedated leopard was rescued from the house by 3 pm and the rescued big cat will be released in a reserve forest, said Deputy Conservator of Forests, Hassan, Sivaram Babu.
