BJP entry not clean chit: G V L Narasimha Rao

Talking to reporters at Guntur on Saturday, Mr Rao said that BJP was aiming at improving its numbers in Rajya Sabha by 2021 or 2022.

Vijayawada: BJP spokesperson and Rajya Sabha member G.V.L. Narasimha Rao said that the induction of TD MPs in the party does not provide them immunity to them from the various cases they face. He said they will have to face prosecution and inducting them does not mean that BJP has given them conduct certificates. He said the party had admitted the MPs to make up the numbers in the Upper House.

There was widespread criticism after TD Rajya Sabha members Y.S. Chowdary and C.M. Ramesh, who face charges of financial fraud, were admitted into the BJP. The TD dug up a letter in which Mr Narasimha Rao had called Mr Chowdary “worse than Vijay Mallya” and sought their disqualification from the Rajya Sabha.

His remark that the BJP was not giving conduct certificates came in response to a question on the letter.

Talking to reporters at Guntur on Saturday, Mr Rao said that BJP was aiming at improving its numbers in Rajya Sabha by 2021 or 2022. He said that BJP doesn’t have the strength in the Upper House due to which government has been facing many problems in passing legislation
He said that the BJP would retain power in 2024 with more seats. The party was having special focus on the southern states including Andhra Pradesh, Mr Narasimha Rao said.
