Unicef city chief: CSR is not charity

Corporates can fill these gaps by collaborating and complement each other's strengths.

Hyderabad: Companies have to realise that corporate social responsibility (CSR) is not charity with a legal binding but a responsibility as sustainable development goals cannot be achieved without the help of corporates, said Meital Rusida, chief of the Unicef field office.

She was speaking at a conference organised by CII Telangana in association with Unicef on ‘CSR — A Call to Action for Socially Conscious Business’.

Chevella MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy, who was the keynote speaker, said, “Government is good at distributing money to build infrastructure, schools and toilets but the challenge is maintenance and employing people. Corporates can fill these gaps by collaborating and complement each other’s strengths.”

Instead of confining to painting schools, corporates can bring a change in mindset of the people, he said.
