KOZHIKODE: The authorities of Perambra taluk hospital are going to file a case with the Cyber Cell against the fake news spreading on social media about the renaming of the hospital to Angel Lini Memorial Government Hospital in memory of nurse Lini, who died of Nipah virus. The fake news has been spreading on various social networking sites for the past two days and the news says, that “Perambra Taluk Hospital in Kerala changed its name to Angel Lini Memorial hospital in the memory of Lini, known as the hospital’s braveheart who died saving Nipah-infected lives”.
Various celebrities, including director Ranjith Sankar and actor Neeraj Menon and many other people, posted the fake news without verification on their Instagram and Facebook accounts that are followed by thousands of people around the globe. The hospital authorities said that even though there was a talk to rename the hospital and many organisations recommended this, no official action or direction has been received regarding the same. Hence, no one has the right to spread such fake news without verification, the officials further added.
“We doubt that this fake news may have been promoted by the youngsters living around the locality. Even on Google, the hospital name has been changed to Angel Lini Memorial Government Hospital, which the hospital administration are unable to edit because of the security lock applied.” The officials of the hospital have also requested the Government to take necessary steps to edit the name of the hospital from Google and take action against the culprits behind.
