APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University ok to students' transfer

The academic activities were not proper and regular as the college was deficient in faculty as well as facilities.

Thiruvananthapuram: The APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University has allowed the Shahul Hameed Memorial Engineering College, Kadakkal, Kollam, to transfer all existing students to other self-financing colleges. This is based on the mass petition and individual representations submitted by the students to the university to shift them from the college as the academic activities were not proper and regular as the college was deficient in faculty as well as facilities.

The university which heard the representatives of the college concluded that its intervention was inevitable, said the order issued by academic dean of the university J. Sreekumar. The vice-chancellor has accorded permission to transfer all the existing students of this college to other affiliated institutions except government / aided colleges of their choice. The students shall obtain transfer certificate from the college and furnish the same along with the application for transfer to the principal of the college to which transfer is sought, the order said.

The principals concerned will enter the required details under ‘ Shift college’ option on the portal and admit students to the available vacancies and in the appropriate branch of study as per rules. Only those colleges which are authorised to admit students under NRI quota need grant admission under that quota. The process shall be initiated and completed immediately so that the students can attend classes without delay, the order said.

The university had recently given approval for transferring students of B Tech courses in KVM College of Engineering and IT, Cherthala, to other colleges. It may be recalled that three colleges were closed down during the last academic year for want of students. They are Aryanet Engineering College, Palakkad, Pankajakasthuri Engineering College, Mar-analloor, Thiruvananthapuram, and Pinnacle Engineering College, Kollam. The Travancore Engineering College, Oyyoor, Kollam, had closed down in 2016 for the same reason. The P.A. Aziz Engineering College, Karakulam, Thiruvananthapuram, was shut in 2015 following a directive by the AICTE.
