NGOs from South India oppose draft policy for women
Hyderabad: Most of the NGOs from South India have opposed the Draft National Policy for Women – 2016 saying that the draft was limited to only empowerment and opportunities. The NGOs said the draft does not include women working in agricultural and private sectors where their number is high.
During a regional consultation on the draft copy, POW leader V. Sandhya, Prajwala founder President Ms. Sunitha Krishnan and other representatives from NGOs opposed the draft copy of the policy.
Member secretary for National Women Commission Ms. Preeti Madan, Telangana Women Commission Chairperson Ms. Tripurana Venkata Ratnam, AP’s Chairper-son Nannapaneni Raja Kumari, women’s commission chairpersons other south Indian states, Hyderabad police additional commissioner Ms. Swati Lakra and others were present.
The NGOs demanded the inclusion of women in agricultural and other unorganised sectors for their protection, education, and other aspects. “In most of the cases, bosses are the main accused for sexual harassments at workplaces and they are only the enquiry officials when complaints are lodged by victims. These circumstances are not providing justice to victims,” the NGOs said.
