Stories of Hope | Sharing is caring for this young couple

With the help of a few friends, and a little investment, they built the organisation by renting a kitchen and getting some volunteers

Hyderabad: Moved by the plight of the poor and the underprivileged during the second wave of pandemic, a young man and his pregnant wife are busy cooking and distributing food among the hungry.

For the past one month, this couple has been serving free home cooked meals to people affected by Covid in the city at 14 different locations, under the banner of Helpingspot Org.

They got the idea of serving people around them at Miyapur in April when Bhargav and his four-month pregnant wife Uma decided to start cooking at home for their neighbours and family. They started spreading the word going door-to-door at Miyapur, and within a week, they started getting 40-50 calls per day asking for meals.

With the help of a few friends, and a little investment, they built the organisation by renting a kitchen and getting some volunteers to prepare and deliver lunch and supper free of cost.

"My friend and teammate B Sai Chandu has been helping us deliver food and find volunteers from day one. We are now serving 700 meals per day and have till now served more than 12,000 meals in the last one month. The idea is always to help people in need during the unprecedented difficult times. While I go out with volunteers to deliver food to doorsteps, my wife cooks as well as supervises the kitchen staff," Bhargav said.

“So far, it has cost us over Rs 43,400 per day to prepare and deliver these meals. We give rice, dal, veggies and curd in the care package,” he added.

The Helping Spot organisation is active at 14 different locations in the city, including Miyapur, Chandanagar, Allwyn Crossroad, Hafeezpet, Kondapur, Kukatpally, KPHB, Nizampet, Hydernagar, Shamirpet, Thumugunta, Babaguda, Ameenpur, Beeramguda, and can be reached on 8886686000.
