Brain surgery an ordeal for doctors due to black fungus cases
HYDERABAD: Private and government hospitals in Hyderabad that have admitted cases of black fungus cases say that out of 100 patients, 10 are coming with invasion of fungus in the brain.
In the Government ENT Hospital, there are neurosurgeons from Osmania General Hospital called in to attend to these cases. In private hospitals, there are an approximate of five patients on whom surgeries were carried out but the outcome has been a challenge.
With black fungus now a notifiable disease, private hospitals state that they are reporting the cases to the health department. A senior doctor at a private hospital on condition of anonymity said, "We had two cases of brain invasion which were operated on. But one of them died and the other is critical."
Despite keyhole brain surgery treatment, outcomes are not preferable and there are deliberations on how must these cases be handled.
