Kurnool fears poll reprisals

The searing heat notwithstanding, that the need to take revenge is ingrained in the bones of factionists is an understatement.

Kurnool: After a wait of 43 days in a bitterly-fought election, the politically sensitive faction-ridden villages in Kurnool district are nervous about the outcome of the result of counting on Thursday. The searing heat notwithstanding, that the need to take revenge is ingrained in the bones of factionists is an understatement.

Wednesday’s brutal murder of Sekhar Reddy near Dhone is a chilling reminder of what lay ahead, said Gopal Reddy, a reformed factionist at Koilkuntla village.

Banaganapalle, Allagadda, Dhone, Alur, Nandikotkur, and Yemmiganur are said to be sensitive constituencies with faction-ridden villages numbering more than 100. At least 100 murders have been reported from these constituencies in the past 20 years.

Allagadda constituency represented by Tourism Minister Bhuma Akhila Priya is said to be very sensitive during the election season.
