Bengaluru: Following the directions of Lokayukta, Land Revenue Department along with BWSSB, KSPCB and United Bengaluru on Wednesday surveyed the Kaggadasapura Lake to map the area and assess the extent of encroachment.
The lake is spread across about 47 acres and as per Koliwad Committee Report, 3 acres 24 guntas has been encroached.
The survey was initiated on Wednesday and will conclude this week. A detailed report will be submitted to the Lokayukta before May 28 hearing.
Suresh N.R., Convener, United Bengaluru, said, “United Bengaluru under the leadership of H S Doreswamy had inspected the Kaggadasapura Lake on July 15, 2017 and accordingly filed a detailed complaint in the Lokayukta along with many other lakes that we inspected. In one of the hearing the Lokayukta directed to survey the lake to find if there are any fresh encroachments.”
He said a detailed report along with the nature of encroachment will be submitted to Lokayukta. “We will then ensure that all the encroachment is removed, the lake is rejuvenated and boundaries are fenced. Today we see that like any other lake, this one is also in shambles. Of the 40 acres of lake land, 3 acre 24 guntas have been encroached upon by both private and public parties,” Suresh said.
He pointed out that BDA has already spent around Rs 8 crore to beautify the lake area, but there is not a single drop of water. “All the money has been spent to build 60 foot bunds, play area and seating area, but nothing has been done to rejuvenate the lake, like enhancing the water holding capacity and ensuring that clean water enters the lake. In some parts we can see the lake frothing, we will continue our fight and ensure that Kaggadasapura Lake does not become another Bellandur,” Suresh said.
