Telangana: Congress bats for tenant farmers

Mr Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy demanded a probe with a sitting High Court judge into the alleged irregularities.

HYDERABAD: Telangana Congress leaders have alleged gross irregularities in the Pattadar pass books and criticised the government stating that the Rythu Bandhu scheme had done great injustice to lakhs of tenant farmers. Telangana Congress Legislature Party deputy leader and MLC Mr Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy speaking to the media on Tuesday, demanded a probe with a sitting High Court judge into the alleged irregularities.

Mr Reddy added that there were several incidents where land belonging to temples and the government were registered in the names of private persons in the pattadar pass books. He alleged that there was a huge scam behind this. Mr. Reddy said that the survey numbers of his own land (351/12/1 and 116) were not entered in the new pattadar pass books. He also said that he had returned the Rythu Bandhu cheques to the government.

He added that forest lands and endowment lands had gone into others hands. He demanded that the State Government should thoroughly review the authenticity of the land records. Meanwhile TPCC spokesperson Mr Gajjela Kantham in a separate media meet said the Rythu Bandhu scheme had done injustice to about 20 lakh tenant farmers. He said that there were only 60 lakh real farmers in the State but in the scheme, the government was distributing Rs 4,000 per acre to 1.40 crore persons.
