Kukatpally Y Junction drainage works at snail's pace

Though works are progressing on both ends of the drainage, the key area that needs immediate attention is unaffected.

Hyderabad: Drains have been overflowing at Kukatpally Y Junction since the past six months.

Though the government has tried to level the pits and repair drainages, works are progressing at a snail’s pace, residents complain.

Though works are progressing on both ends of the drainage, the key area that needs immediate attention is unaffected.

When questioned about this, K. Surya Chandra, work inspector, Kukatpally, said, “The manholes are 7 to 8 feet deep and workers are not ready to enter it.”

G. Balamani, who runs a footwear store near the drainage, complains, “There are so many mosquitoes because of the sewage and water overflows into the shops even if it rains moderately.”

Like Balamani, there are many who earn their livelihood here bearing the stench emanating from the drain. “I am afraid to even think of the rainy season!” exclaims Balamani.

Another resident, Sheik Mahaboob Basha, who works as a mechanic nearby, said “Though this is a main junction road, where one road leads to Balanagar and another leads to Ameerpet, works are not speeding up. When it rains, the whole area is inundated, and people won't be able to see potholes, which lead to accidents many a time.”
