Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has decided not to issue digging permission to both private and government agencies in the city. The digging ban would come in to effect from May 26 to October 15. However, corporation officials have requested the government departments for an extension till May 31 for ongoing works like cellar excavations of buildings and digging of city roads.
According to a corporation official, a circular has been sent to HMRL, Police department, Electricity department, Hyderabad Water Supply and Sewerage Board and all other line departments. The corporation called upon various private and government agencies, which are involved in digging of roads for ducts or cables, to complete the works as soon as possible. Any agency found digging without permission would face criminal prosecution, he warned.
However, road restoration works pertaining to HMWSSB under the HUDCO project would be decided later after discussions with the government. Works that will be affected are installation of CCTV cameras by police, utility shifting by electricity department, underground cable work by several agencies and cellar excavations by city builders. In an emergency, cables can be laid above the ground without digging.
