Taking decisions risky: IAS officer Biju Prabhakar

FB post lists charges that proved untrue.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Dejected by the allegations of corruption which courts or investigating agencies would later trash, IAS officer Biju Prabhakar has expressed a desire to learn the art of taking no decisions and be on the safer side.

“I am getting fed up,” he said in a Facebook post on Sunday. “In a place where officers prefer not to take decisions, I, too, may opt that path. Need to understand from service experts on how to complete the remaining service in a manner that would not affect my pension. Thanks to all,” concluded the post that listed out the allegations he had to face and the initiatives he had taken.

The post starts with the allegations against him in connection with the Pattoor land encroachment scam. He said he was handpicked and arraigned as an accused in the case at Lok Ayukta though he had no involvement in the alleged land grab. “I had to spend from my salary to approach the High Court and get a stay on it," the post said.

He also lamented over the allegation that he suppressed the file pertaining to illegal quarrying at Mookkunnimala in Thiruvananthapuram district. “I was not even the district collector when the land revenue commissioner ordered the takeover of Mookkunnimala land in 2012," he said in the post.

Mr Prabhakar's post, which evoked a strong response, also said the vigilance probe against him in connection with alleged irregularities at Kerala Medical Service Corporation became news but the decision to acquit him was ignored.

“The Karunya Lottery and Benevolent Fund scheme also gifted me two vigilance cases," he said. Mr Prabhakar also listed out his initiates reclaiming government land at various parts of the city worth Rs 50 crore while serving as the district collector.

Mr Prabhakar, at present agriculture director, told DC that he met agriculture minister V.S. Sunil Kumar and apprised him of the difficulties officers faced while taking bold decisions.
