Rajahmundry: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu vowed to resolve the conflict of interest between the party legislators and the police amicably during his visit to Polavaram in West Godavari on Monday. Speaking to newsmen, the CM said it was unfortunate such a dispute arose between the MLAs and the police, as West Godavari was known for peace in the entire state. The police had booked Tanuku MLA A. Radha Krishna along with eight others on the charges of illegal confinement of Iragavaram SI and his writer at the MLA's residence at Relangi village of Iragavaram mandal on May 18 after calling them for a discussion on an issue. Several party legislators from the district surrendered their gunmen to the state government in a protest over the booking of a case against the legislator.
The CM said that the legislators and the police personnel were good people, and expressed surprise as to how the differences surfaced between them. He promised that efforts will be made to resolve the issue and restore normalcy in the district. He asserted that the state government was according top priority for maintenance of law and order in the state, and added that it would not tolerate any breach to it. Referring to the recent murder of YSR Congress leader Ch. Adinarayana Reddy and his aide Sambasivudu in a faction war at Kurnool district, the CM said that it was YSR Congress' chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy's grandfather Raja Reddy who started factionalism in Rayalaseema region. He added that Jagan was continuing with the same tradition.
He cautioned that their government could no longer allow factionalism and rowdyism in the state and such practices could be curbed. Earlier, he inspected the progress of execution of various components of the Polavaram irrigation project and reviewed the pace of works with the officials and the contracting agencies. He reiterated his commitment to ensure supply of water to the command area of the project by June, 2018, and also to complete the whole project by the end of 2019.
The CM said that so far the government has spent Rs 3,200 crore on execution of the Polavaram project and a letter was sent to the Centre for reimbursal of the amount. He announced that the inauguration of the upcoming Purushottapatnam lift irrigation project on Godavari river will be done by August 15.
