Man mauled to death by stray dogs at Pulluvila

The locals held a protest on the road with the victim's body at night.

Thiruvananthapuram: Stray dogs mauled to death a 47-year-old man at Pulluvila on the outskirts of the city on Monday morning. He was identified as fisherman Joseclin, son of Francis, Pallikettiya Purayidam, Kochupalli, Pulluvila, Karinkulam.

It may be recalled that a woman, Siluvamma, 65, was killed and partially eaten by stray dogs here in August 2016. The fisherman was sleeping on the beach beside a boat after helping his friends with nets around 11.30 pm, when a pack of around 20 dogs charged at him who jumped into the sea to escape.

When he attempted to return, he was mauled. He suffered deep injuries on his stomach and hands. The fishermen who were present in the area chased away the dogs and took him to the Medical College Hospital.

However, he succumbed to his injuries around 12.15 am. He leaves behind his wife Jaseentha and children Shainu, Pathrose and Shanu.

The locals held a protest on the road with the victim’s body at night. A large posse of policemen was deployed in the area. Earlier, they had assembled at Pulluvila junction and obstructed the traffic throughout the day demanding an end to the dog menace.

The agitations were headed by Latin Church Archbishop Soosa Pakiyam M. Local MLA Vincent camped in the area and LSG Minister K.T. Jaleel expressed his condolences to the victim’s family.
