Indiscipline hits Telugu Desam, once known for control

Even Naidu's warnings have ceased to calm down tempers in party.

Vijayawada: Discipline in TD seems to be eroding. At almost all party meetings, there are conflicts between politicians. An extreme case in Addanki resulted in a murder. A senior party leader said the party was unable to analyse the reasons for this but acknowledged that the indiscipline is increasing. The TD has been a disciplined party in the past and its disciplinary committee could act effectively. This has changed.

In almost all 13 districts, intra-party conflicts are taking different forms and are increasing. The party high command would step in earlier to settle any such issues, but after the TD came to power this time, the situation is out of control. Many are attributing this to the defections from the YSRC engineered through Operation Aakarsh. In all the constituencies where YSRC politicians defected to the TD, discipline is poor. The leaders are counterattacking each other verbally, and at times physically. Differing opinions and inflated egos have made a mockery of party discipline.

TD politicians are attacking their own party if they don’t get what they want. A case in point is the recent cabinet expansion which has left many disgruntled. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, has warned that action will be taken if leaders in the districts do not cooperate, but there are no signs that anyone is it seriously.
