Hyderabad: Agriculture top rankers now aim for MBBS
Hyderabad: Feelings that the entrance test for admission to agriculture and other streams has lost is relevance can be gauged from the views shared by the top-10 rankers. Not many are in a state of mind to utilise the rank to get admission into a top agriculture, veterinary or pharmacy college.
K.V.N.V.S. Neastham Reddy, the first-rank-hold in TS Eamcet Agriculture test is aiming for MBBS in AIIMS, New Delhi. His father K. Nooki Reddy is an employee with the Kakinada seaport. In fact, academicians say that there would be a few takers for agriculture and other courses from the top 1,000 rank-holders.
V. Kumar, Dean, Sri Chaitanya Institutions, said state agriculture test was not in the scheme of things of many of the BiPC students aiming for MBBS study. “That’s why the number of students that appeared for the test was not a big number compared to the engineering test. Some students worried about NEET preparation skipped this exam,” he said.
With NEET becoming mandatory for medical and dental admissions in government and private colleges in all states, the entrance test for BiPC students is now confined to admissions to agriculture, veterinary and pharmacy colleges in the state.
Even Ayush seats (Ayurvedic, Homeopathy, Unani etc) will be filled based on NEET scores from this year.
When asked about possible avenues for agriculture test rank-holders, Mr. Kumar said they have to join one of the three courses. Students, who fail to get MBBS even after multiple attempts, settle for these professional courses instead of conventional degree study. It was not advisable for students to do B.Sc (Agriculture) that some other state varsities are proclaiming since regulatory bodies have declared the degrees illegal.
